Why Do New Energy Vehicles Must Be Led By China?
The automotive industry has been developing globally for more than 100 years. China, as a late comer, has gradually developed its own automobile industry through the introduction of market technologies. It is obviously not easy to surpass Europe, the United States and Japan in traditional automotive technology, but the development of new energy vehicles is likely to help China achieve a curve overtaking, promote the transformation of auto industry and even become a global leader.

Broad Space for Development
Since automobiles are the main source of carbon emissions, and carbon dioxide and other gas emissions lead to climate warming, various countries have increasingly strict carbon emission standards and fuel consumption targets and regulations. It is imperative to get rid of oil dependence, reduce carbon emissions, and develop new energy vehicles. In 2016, the global passenger vehicle population was 9,470,800. Assume that each vehicle travels an average of 20,000 kilometers throughout the year, the electricity consumption per 100 kilometers is 15 degrees, and the passenger car uses 2.8 degrees of electricity after being electrified, which only accounts for global 11% of electricity consumption. It can meet the electricity demand of new energy vehicles. Many countries around the world have formulated policies to support the development of electric vehicles, and have successively introduced timetables for banned fuel vehicles. China has also actively studied the timetable for the ban on the sale of fuel vehicles, which will accelerate the development of new energy vehicles.

Active National Policy
In 2014, when General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Shanghai Automotive Industry Group, he emphasized: “The development of new energy vehicles is the only way for China to move from a big automobile country to a powerful automobile country. We must increase research and development, carefully study the market, make good use of living policies, and develop new products, which makes it a strong growth point."
In recent years, our country has attached great importance to the development of new energy vehicles from the national strategy. Since 2009, a series of policies have been introduced to support the development of new energy vehicles. At present, China has become the major market for new energy vehicles and has ranked first in the world for sales for three consecutive years. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the “Measures for the Concurrent Management of the Average Fuel Consumption of New Passenger Vehicles and New Energy Vehicle Integration” (referred to as the “Dual Credit System” ), which marks the transition from the development of new energy vehicles to a market-driven drive. The accelerated transformation of auto companies and the realization of independent research and development guide the upgrade of industrial chain technology.
Good Public Awareness
Today, China’s new energy automotive industry continues to show a good momentum of development. Environmental protection and energy conservation have been well-received. The public’s demand for energy conservation and environmental protection is also heating up. The subdivisions of power batteries, vehicle manufacturing, and charging piles have risen rapidly. The quality and efficiency of the development of the automobile industry have been continuously improved. Energetically implementing energy-saving emission reductions, adjusting energy structures, and developing new energy sources have become the only way for sustainable development of the country.
After years of research and development and demonstration operations, China's new energy automotive industry has formed a complete industrial chain from key components R&D and production such as the supply of raw materials, power batteries, and vehicle controllers, to the design and manufacture of complete vehicles, and the construction of charging infrastructure. It has the basis of industrialization. But at the same time, there are still some problems: new energy vehicles remain in the primary stage of development, and technology is not yet very mature; the average automotive ownership is low, and it is not very convenient to charge, fill gas, maintain, etc. ; general vehicle displacement is small, and there are lacking of power, not being suitable for long-distance driving and other issues.
